Abstract:

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a process-based therapy rooted in attachment and systems theory. It is the goal standard for couples therapy and has been modified to work with people in individual therapy (EFIT). Participants in this introductory-level course will learn how to utilize the EFT format to have success when treating a wide range of mental health concerns. The presenter will have a special focus on the EFT Tango, which provides an in-session roadmap for each individual therapy session. Upon completion of this course, participants will have a fundamental understanding of the EFT model and feel prepared to begin using this model in their work with patients. Dr. Jackson has been studying and practicing EFT for 10 years and is a Certified EFT Therapist & Supervisor. Come learn from this engaging and knowledgeable presenter who is passionate about EFT!

Objectives:

  1. Describe the basic tenets of attachment theory, experiential therapy, and systems theory and explain how they form the foundation for all Emotionally Focused Therapies (couples, family, and individual)
  2. List the 5 moves of the Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy macro-intervention (EFT Tango)
  3. Discuss how the EFT Tango can be modified for work with individuals.
